"Dial Tone" Application Programmer's Interface

WebEx
WebEx has developed the first and only real time switch-based voice, video, and data communications system. The WebEx Interactive Network (WIN), combined with WebEx's Interactive Platform (WMSP), allows users to connect across the Internet to share voice, video, and data in real time. WebEx's engineering team has constructed a world wide network of servers and sophisticated software to bring the power of the real time Internet to users. The "real time" connections form the basis of the WebEx "Dial Tone" for the Web.

Network Bandwidth Considerations

WebEx
The purpose of this document is to help customers understand network traffic generated by WebEx MeetingCenter. It is meant to help network administrators estimate and plan for the bandwidth requirements for the use of WebEx meetings. Test measurements show that WebEx MeetingCenter introduces a remarkably low level of network traffic. The network traffic is intermittent and directly correlated to the level of activity. In a normal meeting, the bandwidth requirement will be very manageable and will have minimal impact on the network.

Getting the Picture

Bloor Research
"The level of applicability of WebEx is such that it will make sense for most organizations to investigate the use of the WebEx communication service. However, it is particularly applicable to companies that have customers and partners in multiple geo graphical locations. It is also appropriate for companies that have staff distributed across international offices."

Following its take-up by businesses across the world, we expect WebEx to have a role to play in the consumer market, and eventually to be come a pervasive capability that is used in a similar manner to email and the telephone."
